I am seeking information on the family of Rachel Dickerson and William
Jones. Rachel was born in Fayette County, Pennsylvania on 22 October
1794, a daughter of Joshua Dickerson and Susanna Witten. She married
William Jones in Fayette County on 14 August 1810. William was born 17
September 1788. Rachel and William settled in Harrison County, Ohio c.
1813 and moved to Coshocton County about 1838. Rachel died 29 May
1843. William married a second time, to Lovina Howe, on 11 April 1844.
Lovina was born in New York c. 1800 and may have been married prior to
wedding William. There were no children of William and Lovina. William
Jones died 20 May 1850. He and Rachel are buried at West Bedford
Cemetery #2 in Coshocton County. After William's death, Lovina married
again, on 24 November 1853, to George Smith (b.c. 1805). Lovina died 30
November 1876 and was buried at West Bedford #2.

Children of Rachel Dickerson and William Jones:

1.) Rebecca Jones, b. 18 November 1811 in Fayette County,
Pennsylvania. Married 11 February 1836 in Harrison County, Ohio to
Allen S. Moffett (b.c. 1814). Rebecca and Allen had six known
children: William, c. 1837; Hannah, c. 1839; Rachel, c. 1842; Rebecca
J., c. 1843; John W., c. 1845 and Susan C., c. 1847. Living in Bedford
Township, Coshocton County, Ohio in 1850. No further info.

2.) Samuel Jones, b. 5 September 1813, probably in Harrison County,
Ohio. Married 25 February 1836, in Harrison County, to Margaret Rankin
(25 December 1814 - 22 December 1886). Six known children: Sarah J.,
c. 1837; Thomas, c. 1839; James (c. 1841 - 21 February 1851); William,
c. 1844; Benjamin, c. 1847 and Leonidas [also recorded as Alonzo], c.
1849. Margaret Rankin Jones died 22 December 1886 and Samuel Jones died
16 March 1890. They are buried at the Union M.E. [Smith Hill or Tunnel
Hill] Cemetery in Coshocton County.

3.) Susanna Jones, b. 25 February 1816 in Harrison County. Married 12
February 1839, in Coshocton County, to Philip Howard Kennedy (23
November 1814 - 18 November 1874). Eight known children: Rachel, c.
1841; Ann E., c. 1843; William W., c. 1844; Thomas F. (28 March 1846 -
17 October 1871); John A., c. 1849; Harriet B., c. 1850; Mary, c. 1852
and Emma, c. 1856. Philip H. Kennedy and Thomas F. Kennedy are both
buried at West Bedford Cemetery #2 in Coshocton County. Susanna was
still living in 1880, at which time she was in the household of her
daughter, Mary, in Greely, Weld County, Colorado. She probably died
before 1885.

4.) Joshua Jones, b. 18 March 1818 in Harrison County. Married 3
November 1842, in Coshocton County, to Mary Jane McCurdy (12 May 1823 -
29 March 1911). Two children: Irenus William Jones (7 December 1843 -
26 April 1924) and Francis Marion Jones (26 December 1845 - 23 October
1926). Joshua Jones died in Coshocton County on 11 September 1846 and
was buried beside his parents at West Bedford Cemetery #2. Mary J.
McCurdy Jones married again, to Daniel McKee (27 February 1810 - 1
January 1884). Mary Jane and Daniel remained in Coshocton County until
1882, at which time they moved to Muscatine County, Iowa. She died at
Iowa City and is buried at Brockway Cemetery in Muscatine County.

5.) Mary Jones, b. 25 March 1821 in Harrison County. Married 30
December 1841, in Coshocton County, to Joseph Dickerson [Joseph was a
grandson of Levi Dickerson, an older brother of Mary's mother, Rachel
Dickerson]. Eight known children of Mary and Joseph: Elizabeth (c.
1842 - 11 February 1853); Susanna, c. 1845; Lavina, c. 1847; John M. (c.
20 January 1848 - 11 February 1853); Sarah J. (c. 21 July 1848 - 25
October 1865); Martha, c. 1852; Aaron, c. 1853 and Mary, c. 1856. Mary
Jones died 16 December 1896. She and Joseph are both are buried at the
Union M.E. Church in Coshocton County.

6.) Thomas Jones, b. 24 June 1823 in Harrison County. Married 6
November 1845, in Coshocton County, to Mary Ann Smith (3 December 1824 -
14 January 1914). Four known children: Leonidas, c. 1847; Nancy, c.
1848; Lavina, c. December 1849 and Matilda, c. 1854. Thomas Jones died
2 January 1905. He and Mary Ann are buried at West Bedford Cemetery #2
in Coshocton County.

7.) Sarah Jane Jones, b. 17 October 1825 in Harrison County. Married 7
May 1846, in Coshocton County, to Alexander McCurdy (21 June 1823 -
1902). Seven known children: An unnamed daughter who died in infancy
on 15 March 1847; Winfield S. (6 October 1848 - 3 March 1850); Seth D.
(17 September 1851 - 1909); Pauline (23 May 1855 - 15 September 1878);
Lavina (8 January 1856 - 8 July 1898); Arizona (22 January 1859 - 13
November 1898) and Wilbert W. (3 September 1862 - 8 July 1863). [The
census of 1860 lists a daughter, Melissa, age 7, but does not list
Paulina. They may have been the same person.] Sarah J. Jones McCurdy
died in Muscatine County, Iowa on 8 June 1867 and is buried at the
Brockway Cemetery in Orono Township. Alexander McCurdy remarried, to
Sarah E. Norris (9 January 1840 - 14 May 1932). They are also buried at
Brockway Cemetery.

8.) James Smith Jones, b. 12 August 1827 in Harrison County. Married
1) on 10 October 1850, in Holmes County, Ohio, to Elizabeth Johnston (c.
2 February 1833 - 18 January 1875) and 2) on 4 May 1876 to Christina
Piper (b.c. 1844). Seven children of his first marriage: Mary Lavina
(14 June 1853 - 28 October 1940); Florida Jane (26 October 1855 - 20
April 1938); Anna Luella (27 August 1858 - 16 April 1934); Rosalia (22
November 1860 - 15 November 1865); Charles S. (18 April 1863 - 26
January 1866); Hattie Belle (15 December 1865 - 17 June 1956) and Harry
B. (29 April 1869 - 30 November 1907). Elizabeth Johnston Jones died at
Moccasin, Effingham County, Illinois and is buried at Pleasant Grove
Cemetery. One known child of the marriage of James S. Jones and
Christina Piper: James Clifford (18 July 1882 - 8 September 1885).
James S. Jones attended the American Medical College at Cincinnati and
established practice at Millersburg, Iowa in 1854. He died at Cowden,
Shelby County, Illinois on 8 May 1904 and was buried at Pleasant Grove
Cemetery in Moccasin, Effingham County.
