Being a native Californian, I am fascinated by language differences in
various parts of the country. The discussion about soda, pop, etc., is very
interesting. My husband was born in Ohio, and lived there until he was 12,
then moved to Calif. The way "us California folks" know he is from the
mid-west is because he pronounces "wash" as "warsh" as in "Warshington"; he
and my father (born in Minnesota) also pronounce "debris" as "derbis" and
"herb" (silent h, i.e.: "erb") as "Herb", i.e.: the man's name. He also
says "where's it at", which drives me crazy, because I was always taught
NEVER end a sentence in a preposition!
