Hello, My family were quite a mix; Quakers, Presbyterians and Methodists
were among them. They seemed to sort that all out by 1850 and their offspring
seemed to choose their own churches once they were married. Many of them did
travel in groups-especially those with families of young children. My Kerrs
and Arbuckles, who emigrated from Juniata(Lack Twp.)and Franklin counties in
PA to Knox Co.,OH came in mass with their Hill in-laws and then bought
property adjacent to one another in Clay Twp.,Knox, OH. These people all ended
up in Marion/Crawford Counties, OH. as early as 1828. Men often went ahead and
looked things over and the families followed. It would have been much too
dangerous for a family to come unaided There were still unfriendly Indians and
the terraine was difficult. On the Knox Co. genweb, Maggie, of maggie's
skeleton closet has posted some of the history on what it was like to travel
into the Ohio Valley and the routes that were taken. Patricia Burke Row
