They were the parents of twelve children. Nathan died in July, 1825, and his wife, in 1838. Asa Brown was raised upon a farm and followed this avocation all his life until he retired from active work in his old age.
Asa Brown was married February 20, 1830, to Elizabeth Lee, a native of Leeds County, Canada, and daughter of Samuel and Anna Lee, natives of New York State, and of English and Irish descent. She was born May 2, 1812, and died January 10, 1850, being the mother of ten children as follows, the oldest three being born in Canada, the other in Crawford County: Wilber, born June 13, 1832, and now a druggist at Sycamore; Lucy A. born July 13, 1834, and now Mrs. Henry Clingman, of Sycamore; Hannah M. born May 12, 1836, married John Holman, and died March 30, 1881; Delilah, born July 11, 1838, married Silas Baker, and died near Chapman, Kansas; Letitia, born February 19, 1840, married Eph Adams, and died August 11, 1887; Armenia E. born December 2, 1841, married S D Welsh, and now resides near Chattanooga, Tennessee; Caroline A. born January 8, 1844, married Rev James A Baker, and now resides at Fostoria; Oliva A. born November 3, 1847, and died in childhood; Nathan L and Samuel P (t!

Asa Brown visited Ohio in 1837 and purchased 160 acres of land in Crawford County. The same year he removed his family to this county and resided here for many years. He returned to Canada in June, 1851, and was married on the tenth of that month to Nancy A Brezee, of Leeds county. She was the mother of two children: Louisa Al born April 17, 1852, married Samuel Nichols and now resides at Armordale, Kansas. The second child, Thomas W. was born December 24, 1854, and died in childhood. The mother of these two children died February 8, 1859. Asa Brown was married to Ann Snyder, of Crawford county, March 19, 1860, and she resided with him until his death.
Asa Brown was during his active life a hard working farmer. By industry and frugality he acquired and saved a large amount of property, and leaves all of his numerous children in favorable circumstances. He was a citizen of good moral habits and was for about half a century an active member of the Methodist church. The early part of his life he was connected with the Methodist Episcopal church, and the latter portion, was a consistent member of the Methodist Protestant denomination. The funeral was held Saturday morning, January 7, the remains being buried in the Cemetery at Sycamore.
