Hello,

Are there any doctors or people who are familiar with medical terms out there?

The following query pertains to Jessie Bell CLAUS b. 1881 in Monroe County,
Ohio, the daughter of Adolph CLAUS & Emma GEHRING. She was married to John
TIMOTHY, a tin worker from Wales who lived in Brooke Co., W.Va. She died 3
April 1926 in Massillon State Hospital, Perry Twp., Stark Co., Ohio at the age
of 45.

I received Jessie's death certificate yesterday, and I've been trying to find
out what she died from. Family tradition had that she was just walking down a
road one day and then out of the blue started screaming and holding her
head--that made me think that she might've died from some sort of brain
anuerysm--but now that I have her death record, I don't think it had anything
to do with her brain at all.

The cause of death is listed as "Toxemia due to Sapremip(can't make that word
out) Endometritis," with the contributory(secondary) cause being "Acute
Myocarditis." There was also an Additional Information request attached that
said, "Please ask the physician to state whether or not this was a puerperal
case." The answer on the form, handwritten, is "Not a puerperal case-By Dr.
J. J. South."

Well, from looking up these words in a regular dictionary & a family medical
guide, I think she died from something to do with an infection in her uterus,
and that she might've had some heart problems. The word "puerperal" means
having to do with childbirth or right after childbirth, but Dr. South says it
didn't have anything to do with that--though it has made me wonder whether she
was pregnant at the time she died.

So, can anyone help me with a more accurate definition for her cause of death?
It figures that when I need that website with medical definitions, I can't
find it!! :-)
