Thank you for the warning Laura. I was just on the State of Ohio Archives site www.oh.history.org and they also are warning of cuts. If this new budget goes through they will be cutting their reading room hours from 5 to 3 days a week. Also to be cut will be the staff enough that they will no longer be able to answer our requests for information my mail etc. They are warning that the Death Cert. index may be removed from the site altogether because they would be unable to handle the load with the reduced staff. The are requesting that if this is important to us that we write our legislators or the gov. himself. From what I have seen so far with the cuts in education, senior care and all the other cuts proposed, genealogy research will be close to the bottom of importance for our state legislators. For more information on the State Archives and the budget cuts, there is more information listed on their site. Good luck with all of your research. Connie

Hi all:

I received this message from a relative who is on the Darke County
Mailing list. Please read this and pass it along to those that you know
who do genealogy research in Ohio. This House Bill pertains to the fees
that are charged by the Ohio Department of Health for Birth and Death
certificates. They want to raise the fees from the current 3 cents each
up to $7.00 each, along with a $5.00 surcharge to be sent to the Ohio
Department of Health. There is also language in the bill that seems to
indicate that they will not be providing parent's names on these
documents either. Also, uncertified copies will no longer be allowed.
Please write to your State representatives and senators about this.
