Heritage Quest has not yet indexed all years of the census. However, they
have almost all years posted (last time I looked they didn't have 1900) but
not all the years are indexed. To see them, you must use the "Browse"
function and then fill in the year, state, city, etc. Unfortunately, if you
don't have a page reference, you simply have to "read" the whole thing page
by page -- a very tedious operation. I sometimes use this in conjunction
with Ancestry -- if I can't read the image on Ancestry or it won't come up,
I copy the page reference and check it out on Heritage Quest. They used
different microfilms of the census to make their digitizations so sometimes,
but not always, one has a more readable image than the other.
Eventually, Heritage Quest plans to have all the census years indexed...
