I am an American living in Syria since 1992. I noticed while looking for my Uncle in Cleveland, I noticed on the 1900 cesus on line, and at the naturaization webpage, that there are MANY Syrian immigrants to Cleveland, OH from 1895 to 1930 time frame.

I noticed they had listed their birthplace as Turkey, or Assyria, which is because prior to WW1 there was not country called Lebanon or Syria, persay. The Sultan of Turkey was the ruler, and all of the Holy Land was under Ottoman Turkish Rule/Admistration/Occupation.

If your ancestors are Syrian, Lebanese, Assyrian or listed Turkey as a birthplace (but they aren't ethnically Turkish) write back to me. I can give you free information from here, offer some advise, send you a website of your ancestral homeland.

Let me know what I can do to explain your ancestry to you, I am especially good at giving you and overview of history/religion here, as well as Different ways to SPELL and PRONOUNCE names from here.

Best regards,
Lillian Kathleen Martin
