Etwistedsister, WOW!! I have been unable to get info on the Kelemen Family. Thank you so much. Give me a hint How do I get the 1920 census. Grandma always insisted that she was German but I detected a heavy eastern Europian accent. She lived to the age of 97. Unfortunately, I was not into this until fifty years later. Your info gives my kids a base. Thank you, thank you.

Has anyone had any experience with obtaining records from Case University? My father attended in the early 1930s and I would be interested in obtaining any information they might have on his school days.

Does anyone have any idea what a "Puddler" did for a living? I was
just looking at the 1870 census for the 13th ward and many men listed
that as their occupation.

Thanks Holly! I had an inkling that that might be what they were
doing but as some of the names on the census pages were of very
wealthy industrialists (Lamson and Sessions), I wasn't sure why
working class folks would be living so close to them. Must have been
off some side street or something. Too bad in 1870 they didn't list
addresses.

And in those years, puddling was a hugely skilled job, not easy to get, you
probably inherited it. Shortly after this an automated sort of puddling was
invented and those puddlers who hadn't seen it coming were sunk. My family became
store keepers in anticipation

What a great site I had been told it required strength etc but I gather
that there is also long periods of waiting, in my family it was told of playing
music during the waits.

Subject: New lister
Hi all,
My name is Helen, I live in Montreal and this is my first posting to this
list. I have been looking for a very long time for any appearance of the
name McGINTNY (McGinty with an extra "n") and was recently sent the
following from the County archives in Cleveland:
Owen McGintny age 8 mos 14 days died of measles in the 23rd Ward, Cleveland
on March 22, 1885, which would make his birth about July 8th 1884. His place
of birth is shown as Cleveland and his parents were Bridget and Mick (I
think) McGintny. I have looked through the Genweb transcriptions for the
1900 Census and can find no mention of the name. Is anyone able to tell me a
likely cemetery for a person who died in the 23rd ward or of any other way
to continue searching for this family?
Since almost all of my research over the past 10 years has been in the UK I
am not familiar with records availability in the US.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Helen

Subject: Morrison, Martin & Anna O'Brien, OH>MO>OH
I am looking for my Martin MORRISON for whom I have very little information.
Different documents, ( a copy from the Record of Deaths, KC, MO, & his son's
death cert.) state that Martin was born in Ireland. He was born circa
1838/1839 and arrived in the USA 1868 (not proven). He was supposed to have
made a Declaration but was never Naturalized, (that I can find.)
He married Anna/Annie O'BRIEN on 26 Oct., 1875 according to the copy of the
Probate Court of Cuyahoga County, Cleveland, Ohio. She was the daughter of
Anthony O'BRIEN born Ireland and Mary MYLETT/MYLOTT also born in Ireland.
Annie
was born in Cleveland, Ohio according to the copy of her death cert. Her
death cert. states she ws born June 18, 1860 but the 1880 US Census for KC,
MO
states she was born in 1852.
According to Anna's Obit she had a brother John O'BRIEN and a sister
Catherine, known as Kate, who married James C. McGRATH. Catherine died March, 1937.
The MORRISON & LOAN families use/used the McGorray Bros. Lakewood Home for
funeral arrangements.
Martin died the 26th of March, 1890 in Kansas City, MO from an accidental
fall out of a second story window, damaging his skull which resulted in
death.
He was 51 years old.
He lived at 1209/1211/1215 Independence Avenue. The 1880 US Census for KC,
Jackson Co., Missouri shows approx. 65 other people listed at the same
address
so I am assuming there was a boarding house that he owned.
He was a grocer at the time of his death and my father recalls a picture of
the family in front of the store with the name "Morrison." Newspaper reports
say that he had "lived in KC for 10 years" and "was interred in Mount St.
Mary's cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by Father Lillis, in
St.
Patrick's Church, corner of Eight and Cherry Streets, ..."
After Martin's death Annie moved with her children back to the Cleveland,
Ohio area to be near her family.
1..Martin and Annie had the following children:
....2..George m. Minnie DUNS or DUNN
........3.. Alfred
........3..James
........3..George
....2.. James never married, worked in Vaudville and managed Blackstone the

........3..Sister M. Ruth, Ursuline Order d. 1973
........3..Mary T. 1915-1993 was a teacher and Principal in Cleveland area,
never married
........3..Anne 9 Sept. 1916-2000 m. (1)William HALLAUER, Sr m. (2) John
MANCHEK

........3.. Mary Eleanor 1903-1984 (my grandmother) m. Charles Joseph LOAN

I would greatly appreciate any help in finding information on Martin MORRISON
and Anna/Annie O'BRIEN.
Thank you in advance,

The Cleveland Public Library online Necrology listed no one by the name of
Abraham Wright. Rufus is on there, Lucy Wood Wright, Frederick, etc.
I could not find a will. Couldn't find marriage for Abraham - hopefully
mother of Thomas Wright. Found Abraham was not the Abraham Wright War of 1812, Prv.
un Capt. Samuel Dunnavan's Co - that Abraham was a pioneer 1802 of Newark and
then McKean, Licking County, Ohio who came w/wife and 4 children Only thing I
could find was 1829/31 Abraham Wright sells on easy terms a vessel "Grampus"
to John Malvin, a slave who gained his freedom by the death of his owner and
besides being an engine expert on the JHHudson's steam Mill, he needed extra
income to purhase his father-in-law's freedom. -from Ehle, Jay C. "Cleveland's
Harbor" (The Kent State Uni. Press, Kent, Ohio, London, England)9,10. and On 16
April 1836 Tavern Stand offered for sale. Applications were referred to A.
Wright, Rockport. ("Herald" April 16, 1836 Newspaper Annals, XIX,180 in
"Historic Sites of Cleveland: Hotels and Taverns V. 2 (Ohio Historical Records Survey
Project WPA, Columbus, Ohio, 1942)705. Thomas I'm quite certain died in NE but
no death certificate either state/county so can't find mother listed - He
lived with daughter and son-in-law, Theda Wright Hurd and Nelson Hurd. during
last years -1900 Pleasant Hill Twp. Webster County, NE census . I have Abraham
figured would be 1820 in Rufus home, married 1821/1822, had Thomas
1823,Abraham's wife would have passed away between 1823 and 1830 - Abraham & Thomas would
have been on 1830 and 1840 census. and beofre 1850 something would have
happened to Abraham..
Rufus other children:Laura - b. 1809 NY (Lame, never m)
Hester b 1810-1815 NY (Mrs. Hall) Home in Indiana m. 3 Feb. 1836 Horace Hall
Maria b. Dec. 1811, NY m. Chauncey Deming 3 Feb. 1836 - Chauncey b. 30 June
