Also, some public libraries have genealogical databases that are
available online through their Web site to people who have a library
card. In particular, I think of Heritage Quest which is a wonderful
resource and many libraries purchase access to its database. It has all
the census records, and you can view the image of the census pages
online.

The Godfrey Library in Connecticut (http://www.godfrey.org) is a good
resource for those who do New England research, and you can join over
the telephone with a credit card--for $35 a year. Their site has the
Heritage Quest link, and they also have an old American newspaper
database where you can search for a name and go through whatever hits
come up. Looking at census pages through Heritage Quest is a lot
cheaper than doing it through Ancestry.com. The Godfrey Library has
other databases, as well.
