Dear Dennis,
Thank you for all your hard work. I really appreciate it. Since the
school has the pictures I suppose that no-one is interested in my copies.
By the way you appear to have one too many women listed. There were only 6
in the pictures. Interesting isn't it?
I am wondering if perhaps the Samuel Wesley Boze farm was one of those that
bordered more than one township, or if the township name changed when they
county made line changes.
A example of how confusing township names can be is where I live. My
mailing address, and telephone number are listed as in Mt. Morris, Twp...and
I tell everyone I live in Mt. Morris so that they know where I live.
But as far as the State of Michigan is concerned, especially when it comes
to voting and the street signs, I actually live in Genesee Township. The
tiny town of Genesee is actually about 5 miles away. How is that for
confusing? No wonder all Samuel and "Jennie"'s children said they were born
in Brown Township and even put Brown Township in their father's obituary.
(He died in Flint, Michigan at a nursing home.)
One of the other subscribers on this list has offered to send me copies of
her plat maps, which I will really appreciate having.
As I told her, I will be most interested in seeing how close my
grandparents' families lived to each other. Both William Victor Boze and
his wife Edna Gertrude Livingston were born and raised in Darke County.
They met at church as young people. My grandmother dropped her clean
hanky, accidently on purpose, so that the handsome young man might pick it
up and she could meet him. It obviously worked. Too bad young people of
today can't use such a sweet and and romantic way of getting to know each
other.

Carrol,
I just saw your posting regarding the school pictures and have to believe
this can be tracked down with the resources on the list. I am at my office
so I don't have all my information available - but a couple thoughts
follow.
First, Lightsville is in Mississinawa Twp, not Brown. But Lightsville lies
nears the intersection of Mississinawa and Jackson Twps, in northeastern
Darke County, and Allen and Brown Twps, just to the east. There were high
schools, I believe, in both Jackson Twp and Brown (Ansonia/Dallas) at the
time, as well as in Union City (Ohio side - Jackson Twp). I don't recall
hearing of any high schools in either Mississinawa Twp or Allen Twp (but
this was well before my time so they may have existed).
Ansonia also had a "normal" (teacher's) school sometime near this period -
is it possible that this could be a class from there?
And a little north, in Burkettsville, which is either northern Darke or
southern Mercer County, there was a Catholic school - but I don't know if
that included a high school.
My bet is that the picture is either Jackson or Ansonia High School. It
was not uncommon for students to travel a fair distance at the time. My
grandmother rode the train from Woodington (southern Brown/northern
Greenville Twp) into Union City, O. to attend the high school there (1912
graduate).
Is it possible to get any scans of the pictures for circulation on the web?
That might also help. I've also got some resources that might give me a
quick number for the graduates of both Jackson High School and Ansonia High
School in 1916 that might tie back.
On a personal note - are you by any chance related to Cheryl Boze (a 1969
Mississinawa Valley High School classmate of mine)?
Regards,
Dennis Loy
