Hi Sandra,
I see you are in Laredo Mo.
Boy am I happy to find someone close to and in same area of my ROOKS.
I am from Joseph Rooks, b 1782 in NC mar Apr 1807 in Clinton Co Oh to
and Elizabeth Jackson . b 1789/90 in Stokes Co N C.
They had 15 ch and went to Randolph Co Ind then to Grundy Co Mo around
Lindley and Galt and Loredo, Marion TWP, Mo.
They were my 3rd grt gran parents. one of their son's, William ( called
BILLIE), b 1817 mar Mahala Smithson in 1837 in Randolph Co Ind and also
went with a number of siblings and other ch of Joseph and Elizabeth to
Grundy when Joseph got a big amount of Land by land Grant there.
William and Mahala ( b 1814 Clinton Co Oh) , my grt grt granaparents had
6 ch and they are all on 1850 Grundy Co Marion Twp Mo. census. . Namely,
Isaac, Louisa, Harrison, Smith, Allen, and Millie my grt gran mother.
all born between 1838 and 11 Oct 1846. Mahala died abt 1855 to 1859 as not
on 1860 census with Wm, Smith, Allen and Millie and a lady name of Martha
who is 30 yrs as possibly housekeeper. Does not say who she is on census.
No mar found of Wm 43, and her Also some are still on 1960, census
Wm Smithson and Millie Mildred Murrell were Mahala's parents and were living
in Clinton Co Oh during the 1800's when they died in 1860's. there.
I was told by a man name Rooks in Galt by ph in 1996 that Wm . ( Billie)
left there prob abt spring 1862 and took Millie Maxine the youngest dau
with him and never told anyone he was leaving nor where he was going and
never contacted anyone back there after. No one ever knew where he went.
He went to Susanville, Lassen Co Ca as I have found out and died there 14
Sep 1875. Millie mar 11 Oct 1862 in Susanville, Ca to Emanuel "Mike"
Brannan age abt 34 b 1828 in Dearborn Co Ind. went to Jackson Co Ind with
parents in abt 1829.
Millie and her family and dad, Wm left Susanville abt 1864 and went to
Benton Co Ore to Corvallis area. Wm went back to Susanville to repay money
abt 500.00 he owed someone in Sept 1875 and got ,believe phnemonia and died
and bur there. Sherrif ordered the sale of his belongings to pay Dr bill
and burial. he had worked and saved the money to repay debt. This is in
Court records there.

Since you live in the Lindley area, maybe you are related to some of the
Rooks as many descendants still live there but with varying different
surnames due to marriages into, Ishmael, Chrisman, Mc Alister, Holloway,
Snodgrass, Scott, and many other names there.
Just ask anyone you meet if they had ancestors that were there in middle of
1800's and maybe you will find your Brown's may be connected back then or
after to one of these Rooks descendants. I am also looking for the Isaac,
Smith, and Allen Rooks yet. I found Harrison in Clinton Co in Civil War
and mar and lived had family in Darke Co Oh and mar in Darke Co Oh. where
he died. Also Louisa mar Joseph (Joel) Boring in Clinton Co Oh and lived in
Mercer Co and Van Wert Co Oh where she died Jan 1918 and Joel died Sep 1919
in VanWert and are bur there.. A dau Ida Boring mar a Simon Butler in
Van Wert Co oh 1890, and some of her siblings also mar there and are
connected to some Worthern's..
Millie Maxine Rooks Brannan mar. as stated before here and ended up in
Colfax, Whitman Co Wa where she died
30 oct. 1925 and Mike in 1913 and are both buried in the Colfax cem.
Millie had 11 surviving ch and i son died who was a twin to my Granmother ,
Effie Cora Brannan,b 23 May 1883 in Bend ,Deshutes Co Ore.
I am Maxine Mae( Baldwin ) Brooks ,Wilton and will appreciate anthing and
meeting any descendants there via Snail Mail or E Mail. and exchange gen and
pictures.
I have not found when, ( date) that Mahala Smithson Rooks died or where she
is buried and maybe some descenant has this. Millie said she died when she
was 9 yrs old and that she and her dad left then for Ca. But I have proved a
number of things she told and left the family are wrong memory of her since
she was only 15 when she left Grundy Co Mo. She never even left the names of
her siblings and no one has any record that we know of ,of them. I got imfo
from 1860/ 1860/ and 1870 and 1880 and 1900 and 1910 census on them. in
Grundy Co Mo , Clinton Co Ohio, Mercer, Van Wert and Darke Co's Ohio.
