This article may not be the same as you referred to but is pretty good,
although not entirely accurate as to "free" records through the Mormon
church. They certainly don't have ALL of them, and it is necessary to rent
the films through Salt Lake for the most part.

The FHC here in Mesa AZ is their third largest facility, but many records
are not available and some films were even pulled from circulation because
they contained data about persons who "might still be living." Someone else
said Mormon libraries only have b. and d. certifs. up to 1908 although this
may not be the case in all of them. The state of AZ is working with the LDS
to scan and put such records on computer where they are then available FREE
at the FHC. The only cost is 5 cents per page to print the scanned
certificate. Only a few years have been done so far however.

There was a good article in the Dayton Daily News several days ago on the
Vital Records issue. See...

I believe I heard yesterday that Gov. Taft does have the power of the "line
item veto". I plan on writing him today at ,
asking him to veto the portion of the bill that deals with uncertified
copies of vital records.

I am not certain most of you know who I am. My name is Pat Jones and I have
been fighting the possible loss of uncertified vital records here in OH.
I pleaded my case before the senate hearing in June and seemed to have lost
that battle for my ancestors and other researchers.
I received this from the Hamilton list this a.m. and am hoping it makes all
the county lists as well as local OGS chpts, and other states that have
interest in OH roots or just care enough to speak up.
I am going to Jackson/Gallia to work on some of the families tomorrow.
I just thought that if such a # of people wrote or phoned the governor our
families my get a last minute reprieve from the state. I just wanted to
post and let anyone know.
If you are on other lists and feel as compelled as I it would be nice to see
all counties and anyone else make a statement to the governor on our
ancestors behalf.
I am sending this to those I have helped along with family members as well.
