Subject: [OHDEFIAN-L] French-sounding names in Defiance Ohio

I am a descendant of a Paul Renollet who emigrated
from Ludweiler, Prussia to America in 1837. He
was from the Pfalz region of Germany. Ludweiler i
s right across the river from Alsace-Lorraine. My
distant Renollet cousins in Kansas have told me
that the Renollets were originally French protestants
who fled France in the l600's for the German principalities.
Paul Renollet's native tongue was German. The
Renollets, Lavals, Guilliams, Toussaints, Paulus'
lived in western Germany for two centuries before my
ancestor emigrated to America in 1837.
Paul Renollet came first to Henry County and then
moved to Defiance County. Some of his descendants
moved to Paulding County, and ultimately to
Kansas.
