I found this interesting about census records and thought I would pass it on:

1. The 1880 Soundex system listed only families WITH children 10 years of age
or younger !

2. Mortality Schedules were taken to enumerate persons who died during the 12
months prior to CENSUS DAY. They exist for 1850-1880 for most states.

3. Agriculture Schedules give detailed info on farms they exist for 1850-1880
for most states.

4. Manufacturing Schedules 1810-20 & 1850-80) give locations and owner of
businesses.

5. Social Statistics Schedules (1850-80) contain trade societies, lodges,
clubs, newspapers, churches and info on cemeteries within cities.

6. Dependent, Defective, and Delinquent Classes - taken in 1880 lists
homeless children; deaf mutes; blind, insane, idiots, pauper and indigent
inhabitants and prisoners.

7. The first census to show aliens: 1820 & 1830

This info from the Population Census Schedules Summary: 1790-1920 by Phyllis
Brown Miller, C.A.L.S., It was sent to me (I don't remember from where)
and has several other tips/pointers. However, the above I thought most
helpful.
Thank you. Barb
