Does anyone have the dates of formation & counties formed from
for the Ohio Counties in this area:
Wayne, Stark, Ashland?
******************************
M. Thompson,
Wayne Co.
The original Wayne County was established 15 August 1796. This county
disappears from Ohio in 1803 when Ohio became a state and ultimately became
Wayne County, Michigan. The present day Wayne County was formed 13 February
1808. The county seat is Wooster.
Ashland County was formed by legislative act on February 24, 1846. On the
first Monday of April, 1846, the county-seat was located at Ashland.
Ashland County was formed out of Richland, Huron, Lorain, and Wayne
Counties. From Richland, fractional townships Mifflin, Milton, and Clear
Creek were taken. Also, the full townships of Hanover, Green, Vermillion,
Montomery, and Orange were taken. From Huron, the full township of Ruggles
was taken. From Lorain, the full townships of Troy and Sullivan were taken.
And from Wayne, fractional townships of Jackson, Perry, Mohican, and Lake
were taken.
Stark Co. Formed in 1808.
If you are new to Ohio research check out this web site with a clickable
county map. There is a lot of information there and people who will do
look-ups in different counties. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohgenweb/
