Susannah (McNitt) Bates is listed in the 1850 census in Cumberland County, Illinois in the home of her son Willard Bates age 28. Abraham McNett is on the same page of the census. I believe this a brother of Susannah. Adam McNitt's tombstone bears the inscription "Patriot of the Revolution" . His wife's tombstone spells the name McNett. So, the name changed from McKnight to McNitt to McNett in a few short years. Mercy's son Peter V. Searles is buried in the same area of Sunbury Cemetery. I descend from Adam through his son Ezra, and his son Edgar. Edgar's son William was my maternal grandfather. The McNett family remained in the Delaware County area. William and his brother John were well known in the area. Hope this helps some in your research.
