Hi Gail: Do you have a Darius and Abigail (STEVENS) CRIPPEN in your family?
I have no proof but through the CRIPPEN newsletter I learned about them.
Diadama was b. in Dutchess county, NY and the family migrated to Egramont
(sp?) VT and on to Canada. They lived in Onterio, Leeds, Bastard twp. I have
recently learned that maybe my SPENCERS went with them. It was the Stevens
who took a group to Canada. I can't find a marriage record for Abraham and
Diadama in OH even tho all of their children were born there so, perhaps
they married in Canada and came to OH soon after.
They lived in Seneca county in 1830 census but had a child in Huron co,
in 1831. They sold land in Seneca county in 1826 (I have a deed). None of
this seems to fit together. Her name may be spelled Diadamia as I have seen
that name spelled that way. I got my spelling from the 1850 Lake county, IN
census and you know how census takers spelled!
My gr-gr-grandfather, Isaac named a son Charles as did my
gr-grandfather. Perhaps he was named for your Charles. I hope we can find a
match.
Thanks for the suggestion about Groton. I live in Huntsville, AL so I
will have to see if I can get some kind sole to check Groton twp for me.
