Hi Louise,
I don't know if I can help you or not. I was born in Sandusky, OH and
lived there until 1964. There was an area known as Camp Town way down
in
the "east end" off First Street. It was a low area along the bay and
popular for picnicing and swimming. At one time the Indians in the
area
lived there.
My mother, who would be 90 if still alive, told me several times that
she liked to watch the Indians swim because they swam under water and
their long black hair would float on top of the water. I guess a child
would find that fascinating. I have a Cemetery Census of Erie County
before 1909 and I find no mention of any burying ground down there.
I would be interested in hearing of any other answers you get about
this
area.
Good hunting,
Kay
