The American Institute for Economic Research is an independent
non-profit research and educational organization. It is not a
genealogy service. Yet, the Interactive Cost-of-Living Calculator
on the Institute's Web site can be helpful to genealogists. It can
calculate dollar equivalencies for any two years between 1913 and
1997.
The obvious advantage of the calculator on the Web is that it is
free. It is also conveniently accessible. The big disadvantage is
that it only goes back to 1913. Many genealogists will want to go
back to earlier years. COLA will go back to 1749.
If you would like to try out the free Interactive Cost-of-Living
Calculator, look at: http://www.aier.org/
