Dear Friends,

I have been researching my family for many years but have very little experience searching land records and none searching partition records. Could someone on the list tell me a little more about partition records? What exactly are they and where in Fairfield County are they housed? I notice that the chapter has published "Partition Record Abstracts." How much information can I expect to find in those?

I will be visiting Lancaster in August and hope to devote my research time to land records. I am still searching for a death date of my great-great-great grandfather, Joseph Phillips of Berne Twp. The last record I have found for him is a land transaction in 1865, but that information is from the index only. I was advised to be sure to examine the actual record, as he may have died years before that date. I am also hoping to gain more information from partition records.

Thanks,

Sheila Rider
