Evangelism
In 1941 the Pastor, Rev. Carlton CURRIE, assisted by Rev SHARP, a United Brethren minister, held a revival......
In 1947, Rev. Harry YOST, the pastor, assisted by Miss Manerva BOYER, an evangelist from Circleville, held a two week's revival ....
This Miss BOYER as a young girl was a visitor at the Sunday School in 1932 and won a memory contest given by the Pastor, Rev. KILPATRICK. She was the only one who could repeat the Ten Commandments in the test given that day.
Funerals
A number of large funerals have been held at Fletcher in the past ten years. Charles GILL (1939) well-known farmer and dealer in fine draft horses: also member of the GILL family connected with the early history of the church. Robert PETTY (1944) who operated the local blacksmith and repair shop for many years. William SPITLER (1943) church trustee and prominent farmer. John JUNKER (1942) church trustee and Spanish American war veteran. Harley KELLER (1947) church trustee and prominent live stock dealer and auctioneer. Delia PARRISH (1940) member at Fletcher for many years. Alfred PARRISH (1945) one of the original trustees of Fletcher Chapel cemetery ass'n. Other longtime residents of Fletcher community: Mrs. Sadie MCMILLEN (1937); Mrs. Minne THOMPSON (1942) Mr. Joe PARRISH (1941); Mrs. Orrel PUGH (1940); Mr. Orren SLATER (1938); Mr. Worthington SLATER (1940); Mrs. Angie RODY (1940) and Mrs. Willeta CLICK (1941). All these services were held in the church with large crow!
ds attending. Times are changing and today Funeral homes are claiming the larger share of the funeral services. It is the opinion of many that this ought not to be. We quote the present pastor, Rev. Harry YOST: "There is a kind of sacredness goes with a church funeral that is not found elsewhere. While the Funeral home has more of the atmosphere of the theatre."
Church Weddings
There have been two church weddings in the history of Fletcher Chapel. The first was that of J.C. TAGGART and Amanda FAIRCHILD, June 1, 1873. The second and last to date that of Dean CLINE and Thelma MOORE, Sept 12, 1943. The pastor, Mrs. Rev. A.P. CHERRINGTON, performed the very impressive marriage ceremony. Two weeks before the wedding, she announced the hour of the service and stated that when the service began the doors would be locked, that nothing might interfere with the sacredness of the ceremony by which these two young lives were joined. Everyone was on time and the church was full.

A Big Birthday Celebration
In Sept 1943 the members of the Men's Bible class at Fletcher determined to honor their teacher, Mr. A.M. WHITE, on his birthday. Mr. WHITE has been teaching in the Sunday School for nearly 60 years. All who had ever been in his class were invited to be present In Sunday School on this day. And what a fine class of men that was. H.B. KELLER and Merl KELLER took the responsibility of furnishing the birthday cake. They contracted a Lancaster bakery for the cake with instructions to make it as big as possible. He baked it in a dishpan. When covered with icing and topped with 82 candles, it certainly was a beautiful sight. Some Comparisons in Church Expenses past and present
In 1875 when J. H. BEERY was pastor, Fletcher Chapel was assessed $200.00 as their share of ministerial support ; also taxed $1.60 as their share of expense of moving the minister. At that time James PUGH Sr. was hired as janitor at a salary of $20.00 for the year.
The pastor's salary in fixed at $1,800 for 1947. Fletcher's share of entire ministerial budget will be $706.84 for 1946-47. The moving expenses of the present pastor amounted to about $100.00. The present janitor, Owen KELLER, receives $7.00 per month with additional compensation for extra services. The highest individual subscription, recorded in 1875, was $20.00 and only one at that figure, the rest much lower. Today it ranges from over $100.00 on down.
