I found an article in a book called Editorial Writings, by C. H. Cayce,
in which the author says he had a copy of the original minutes, and of
the history of the Association, and he gave information from both (but
unfortunately in an abridged form). The following sums up the information
given about the formation of the Scioto Baptist Association in October
1805. It says:
The meeting of the organization was held Saturday, Sunday, and Monday,
October 12, 13, and 14, 1805. The introductory sermon was delivered by
Elder Cyrus Paulk, from Zech. 4:11,12. Four churches were represented -
Ames, 49 members; Pleasant Run, 36 members; Old Chillicothe, 14 members;
Salt Creek, 33 members. The circular letter is copied in full. It is
signed by Nathan Cory as moderator, and Peter Jackson as clerk.
The article gives a list of all the moderators and clerks from 1805-1938.
The second session, in 1806, and third session, in 1807, were held with
Pleasant Run church. The article states that a history of the association
was published in the minutes of the 74th annual session in 1878. This
history was supposedly brought uptodate in 1904 for the centennial.
I believe I also have a copy of this 1905 history, but not the minutes of
1878.
