Sorry, Kay. I can find no tie in with your family from Virginia. I have the
death certificate for John S. Shoemaker which says he was born in Reading,
PA, his father's name not given and his mother's name given as Elizabeth. I
have been unable to locate them in Berks County, PA but am continuing to look.
The family left Fairfield County soon after the 1880 census was taken, but I
feel that the daughter, Mary Jane (Called Jennie in all family papers) could
easily have married in Fairfield County before they moved. A sister married in
Paulding County in 1884 and two others in 1889 and 1890. Since Mary Jane and
George W. Bowers were married 22 Dec 1881 and he was from the Lancaster area it
seems probable that they were married before the move northwest. Surely
would appreciate any help on this question of where they married. They were the
only set of the children to live in Putnam County, but the bulk of the family
was in Lima, Allen County until their deaths. Does anyone have marriage
records for that time frame available? Thanks in advance. Jeanne
