Paint Twp., Fayette Co. Found tucked in the bible of my Great Grandfather, James B. MARTIN, was the following obituary (no relation). I kept it just in case the mystery of why it was there ever revealed itself. Today it DID! Looking at the 1900 Census for my family, the mystery solved...the BUCHER (BUTCHER?) family lived next door. Somehow, I hope this long forgotten obit makes it back to the BUCHER or BUTCHER descendants, by posting it here. It appears by the epitaph at the end that Ola did have other sibilings at the time of her death.

HORRIBLE Was the Death of Ola Bucher

One Who Was A Father's Pride, A Mother's Joy and Loved by All Who Knew Her.

As the sun's rays tinted the western horizon on the stormy evening of November 13th 1904, many of the people of Bookwalter had gathered at the church to pay devotion to our heavenly Father, all being ignorant of the awful doom of one in our midst. But ere time came for service it was reported of a fire at the residence of L. E. BUCHER, one of our leading business men, and as the result of it his daughter, a girl of seven is dead and his hands are burned in a serious condition.

Miss Ola was a girl, who had a craving for knowledge and before retiring for the evening she usually spent some time in reading and writing, and that evening she was preparing to write a letter to her uncle and in taking her position on a chair near the sewing machine which supported the lamp in some way caught the cover of the machine throwing the lamp from its position. In so doing the lamp broke and the oil, saturating her clothing became ignited, and was soon a mass of flames. Her father after trying to extinguish the flames was compelled to abandon it after his hands were burned to a crisp. When assistance arrived they found her near the door, lying on the floor with hands outstretched shrouded in a mass of flames screaming for help. They being in fear of the destruction of the house carried her across the street to the home of her grand-parents where she lingered through the night, until about five o'clock on the morning of the 14th when she commmended her spirit to Go!
d and closed her eyes in eternal sleep. Ola was an exceptionally good child in disposition, and last week you could see her smiling face wending its way to the village school the pride of her heart. It seems strange to us for her to be taken from us in this manner, but we are under the direction of one who knows best and his way, not ours be done.

Although a mere child she spent her last hours in singing her favorite songs and praying to God to receive her spirit.

Funeral services were held at the Christian church at Bookwalter, Tuesday after which the procession wended its way to beautiful Fairview, where the remains were laid to rest. Under the direction of the wise Creator, the world will never know a more true and unselfish girl than Ola.

Father, mother, sister and brother,
I must leave you, here alone;
For my heavenly Father calls me
Calls me to my heavenly home.
