Jamie,

Are you restricting the search for your Edward Holmes to Franklin County?
Did you ever call Glen Rest to see if the Edward Holmes you're looking for
is buried there?

There are four obituaries for men named Edward HOLMES in the Columbus Metro
Library's online index:

Edward Joseph Holmes, Columbus Dispatch (CD), Mon., 14 Dec 1964,
p. 5A

On Ancestry.com there are 19 men named Edward HOLMES who died in Ohio
1958-2000. Of those, two died in Franklin County:

Edward H. Holmes, died 17 Aug 1959, age 83, estimated year of
birth 1876
Edward J. Holmes, died 13 Dec 1964, age 65, estimated year of
birth 1899

The SSDI (Ancestry.com) lists 15 men by that name who died in Ohio; none are
listed specifically for Franklin County, but three have no "Last Residence"
listed:

Edward Holmes, born 25 Oct 1911, died Jan 1969
Edward Holmes, born 1 Dec 1889, died Oct 1965
Edward Holmes, born 12 Oct 1927, died Nov 1973

In the Ancestry.com database U.S. World War II Army Enlistment Records,
1938-1946 are two:

Edward J. Holmes, born 1927 in Ohio, enlisted 16 Jan 1846,
Ohio-Ohio
Edward P. Holmes, born 1916 in Ohio enlisted 9 Nov 1943,
Hawaii-Ohio

One more possible from Ancestry.com (California Death Index, 1940-1997)
Holmes, Edward Cuvis, died 16 May 1983, San Diego, born 20 Dec
1906, Ohio, Mother's Maiden Name BARTOW. (I have to wonder if that should
be BARTON. I've found several typos and other errors in this database while
searching my own family.)

Last, but not least--from Ancestry.com's "OneWorldTree" there is one entry
for Edward Holmes born 5 May 1900, died age 72. He married in 1937, Mary
June Barton (born 1920 in Pickaway County). The person who submitted this
entry did not register their E-Mail address so there is no way to contact
them. Apparently, Mary June and Edward were divorced as she married again
in 1951 to Harold W. Bowman. Of course there is no documentation for any of
these things so they would have to be thoroughly investigated and each
primary record located and obtained for documentation purposes.
