A William Grant is listed as head of household in the 1870 WV Census Index in Scott Township of Putnam County, WV on roll 1698 page 335 age 31, therefore born 1839. He is believed to have been born in Rockbridge County, VA now WV

According to his granddaughter, Jewell Grant Lipscomb, William had a prior marriage to his marriage to Emma Houck. Some sources give Emily (Houck) Grant as born in Ohio, other as born in VA.

Obituary notice for William Grant's step daughter, Forest Rose (Houck) McLaughlin, mentions a half sister still surviving, Myrtle Gillespie, probably born of Forest Rose's mother's second marriage to William Grant?

I'd love to find William's parents.
