Anne:
I received you letter in the mail today. Thank you very much for the
information. I see that Teresa is your daughter & I wondered if you might
like a copy of DAR application 581793 to give her & her husband. It is from
Marylyn Mosely Cryder, 15 N. Franklin St., Delaware, Ohio 43015 placed in
the National Number roles August 3, 1982.
Marilyn was the daughter of Charles Arthur Moseley & Emily May Boster.
Emily May Boster was the daughter of Carlton Boster & Susan Anna Henry both
from Gallia Co, Ohio. Carlton Boster was the child of John R Boster & Emily
Kerns, & Emily Kerns as your information shows - so does hers - was the
child of Julian A. Loucks & George Kerns. Julian being the daughter of
Jacob & Ladocia Loucks.
Let me know & I'll forward it to you, if you'd like it. I'll also send you
the information I have on my family group sheets at the same time.
Basically we have no differences except I had Julians birthdate as Nov 9,
1823, while you show it in November 12, 1819. Would you know where that
information came from? I got the birthdate from the DAR application just
cited. Henny Evans had previously sent me some information which included a
very small typewritten document that showed Julian in (2) places, one
showing born about 1818, one born about 1823, so I chose the 1823 date
because it was listed in 2 places, but that's pretty arbitrary! If your
date came from a reliable source, I would like to change the date to that
one.
I show Jacob as born in Botetort VA or Philadelphia, Pennsylvania & heres'
why. William Loucks born 1850, son of Jacob Loucks is listed in Codorus Twp
census in Pennsyvania, not far from where he enlisted in the service in 1783
tax census. This was really the first kind of any census in that area, and
he does not ever show up again - which makes sense because he moved to
Botetort VA. There could be two William Loucks (It is spelled Laux in the
1783 tax census). This is not "official" recording to say that this is the
same William Loucks, but since I have not been able to find a marriage
certificate in Virginia - or register or record of marriage, I wonder if
they weren't married in Pennsylvania before they moved to Virginia.
His son Jacob, in making application for his pension swore that his parents
were married about 1781 - didn't say where - but if married & 1781 & still
living in Pennsylvania in 1783, they would have been married in
Pennsylvania. (The first records I have to date been able to find for Jacob
in Virginia are purhase of a 25.5 acre farm, on Back Creelk for 100pds in
1795. Indenture dated Nov 14,1804 - finalized in 1805 - sold the farm to
Elisha Lackland for 300 pounds. This also makes sense because Mrs.
Rhodarmour says they came to Gallia Co, Ohio Dec 24, 1804, & the neighbor
who testified at Williams American Revolution hearing said they moved next
door to him in 1805 with 10 children, the oldest daughter over 20, and
considered an "old maid". He testified they had lived elsewhere for a short
time before moving next door to his farm in 1805. However, I have not been
able to find evidence of a marriage certificate for William & Margaret in
Viriginia in 1781 & am wondering if they weren't married in Pennsylvania
before they moved to Virginia - and that possibly after the tax census taken
in 1783. William Loucks sworn testimony to the pension board simply says
that "after the war he moved to Botetort VA, " doesn't specify how long
after the war - which William was released from in 1778 but which didn't end
until 1781.
Jacob's sworn statement which Henny Evans sent me previously also says
that the grave stone is in error in the date of his mothers' death, that she
had not died Feb 25, 1851, but had died April 11, 1848. According to the
tombstone, she was born in 1770, making her only 11 when married in 1781, so
that makes his story about the tombstone being incorrect believeable. Also,
Jacob swore that his oldest sister was 70 yrs old in 1852, making her born
in 1782, which makes sense if the parents were married in 1781. That also
doesn't fit with the tombstones that son Jacob says are in error.
So while the written census records all indicate William the American
Revoutionary Soldier & Margaret Liter his wife were married in Botetort VA,
about 1781 & Jacob was born in Botetort VA about 1787, I wonder if both
didn't happen in Pennsylvania, before they moved & so my Group sheets
reflect that, until I have a marriage certificate, or something else
official to base the marriage place on.
