I was as annoyed as everyone else when I heard the price went up from
$7.00 to $27.00 for a copy of the application for SS (SS-5). I called
the main Social Security office here in Cincinnati to see if I could
beat the deadline by picking up the copies locally. I was told that I
could come in person and bring a list of SSN's --and preferably dates of
death-- of my ancestors and someone in the office would give me
printouts of the info on the SS-5s as it appears on the computer screen.

Granted this is not a photocopy of the actual application but it will
provide the same information and for free.
