Hello Debbie,
On 19 June 2002 My wife and I went to the Probate Court in Gallipolis. To look up my GGGrandfather Jacob Hummerich Probate Court Estate papers. This is what I found out, first we had to find the case number under Jacob Hummerich, case H-99, we did this in the Probate Court on there micro film. Then the very nice lady there told us that the Gallia County Historical & Genealogical Society now has the original court papers.
We went over there and Mary Lee Marchi, the Director was very happy to find his Probate Court Estate papers on every thing from the pigs, horses, and even the cost for his coffin, acres of wheat, wagon, Debts due, etc. It only took her about two minute to find. These papers date back to 1876. Then she went out of her way and even made copies for us. there is a fee for making copies of the papers. To me it was worth it. There was also not a will made on his estate. If you can get some one to go to the Gallia, County Probate Court and find A case number with the name that would be a very big help. There is allot of court records in the Society office. A case number would help the Society to find the papers. This was the only place that I could find any Court information on Jacob's court papers. The papers helped all of his descendants to under stand why the farm fell a part so fast.
Hope this can help, Russell Hummerick
