Listers,

I think that the unknown Jonas McCARTY I have been searching for has been
placed.
He may have been the son of David McCARTY & Sarah "Sally" FARR.

A descendent of Jonas McCARTY wrote this:

"My dad told me Jonas' father died when he was 2 years old and his mother
remarried a Riffle and Jonas was placed with relatives to be raised."

Now this is confusing because in the marriages of Gallia County I find:

McCarty, David Farr, Sally 8-27-1812 Stedman, Eli C.
1-29

Larr, John McCarty, Sarah 12-13-1826 Baker, Joseph
1-153


So I wonder if a mistake was made and it said something like this for the
second marriage:

Riffle or Rife, John Farr McCarty, Sarah and it was interpreted as
John Larr ??

Or is that second marriage not even the wife of the decd David and maybe she
was married to a RIFFLE or RIFE in a nearby county?

I have sent for the will of David McCARTY so hopefully I will be able to name
his children soon. But it looks like when he died, at least one of his
children (Jonas) was raised by relatives.


Has anyone seen a McCARTY/RIFFLE marriage in a nearby county??
