Rebekah,
My grandmother was born in nearby Lawrence County, Ohio in 1898.
She did not have a birth certificate issued when she was born. They
didn't discover that until she wanted to work during World War II. They
had to issue a "delayed birth certificate" with the signatures of two
people who could testify to her birth. Her father signed and her aunt
signed since her mother had died several years after my grandmother's
birth. Maybe your great grandfather had one issued too, or perhaps he
didn't have one issued at all. He might not have "needed" one. Good
luck in your search!

Subject: [OHGALLIA-L] Missing documents

Hi there,

Can anyone tell me why I would be unable to find birth or death
documents on
family who were supposed to have died or were born in Gallia county? My

great grandfather was born in Gallipolis according to his death
certificate
in 1884 to William and Sarah (Kinser) Beard, who were both born in Mason

County West Virginia. I have tried every rock and can't seem to find
them
anywhere. Thanks for any help you can provide. Oh yeah, I have also
turned
over several rocks in Mason county with no luck.
