There was some wrong information given on joining The Society of Civil War Families of Gallia County. We had a call at the office today from a woman that was searching for another Civil War solider for a family member. She had one daughter join this year on one soldier and was under the impression that only one family member could join for each solider proven and she was wanting another daughter to join so she was needing help finding different soldier. This information is not correct! Anyone can join on one soldier, there can be ten people or more with the same soldier as long as they can prove they descend from said solider. We lost three members due to this mistake because this family thought only one member could join and they could not find another solider for the others to join.

We do not want this to happen again! We want as many people that can prove a soldier do so, many of these soldiers had large families and all descendants have the right to call claim to their ancestor. Yes, we want new soldiers but we also want all family members to join if they chose and they don't need to prove separate ancestors. It is just like First Families, the same ancestor can be used over and over again, you just have to prove them.
