Thanks Cheryl,
I had no idea that could be done. I am impressed. So much I need to learn!
I too, wish I lived closer.
Should be an interesting meeting!

meeting
Vickie,
We are hoping that by having this program some of us that volunteer will
also learn the procedure and be able to help anyone that comes to the
society with negatives . Our computer is set up with a scanner that can
retrieve a picture from a negative that has been deemed unprintable.
Frank has done an excellent job of retrieving several negatives that were
found at his father's home. It was amazing to watch that blackened piece of
film bring forth an image of bygone years. He had been told that the
negative was ruined and could not in any way be printed.
By using the scanner with a special piece that narrows the scanning field he
was able to pull the picture in and eventually print it.
This is just one example of what your Gallia County Historical/Genealogical
Society is striving to do. We want to be able to assist you in many ways...
So, we hope that many will become excited to learn how to work the scanner
there by being able to help someone else who has a lost picture on a
negative. We have the equipment to do it and learning this technique will
help us serve you better. We hope to be able to have a person bring in the
negative and walk out with a precious lost image.
Marjorie and I are working on programs of this nature that will enhance our
service to you and to enhance your ways of researching and dealing with that
research. One of the up coming meetings will also be about restoring
pictures that have been damaged. We have a couple of people who have
volunteer to show us that procedure also.... Taking a badly scratched
picture , restoring it to near perfection...
We hope to have a lady who does Heritage Scrapbooking. Ladies this will be
an excellent program. It will help us present those beautiful old photos in
a meaningful way.
More about Programing at the Gallia County Genealogical meetings will follow
in just a few weeks. We will try to announce them far enough in advance
that maybe you could make the trip in to participate with us.
Just another way of helping our many researchers to find that lost ancestor
and to work with the information that you have found.
We are excited about having more Family Research donated to our ever growing
library. To let you in on some information. Less than 6 months ago, Mary
Lee and I moved the family library shelves to a new location in the
building... adding much needed shelves so that the binders would be less
bunched up and more easily retrievable.... WELL, folks , next week we are
building more shelves and moving out things around again to accommodate more
research books and family history binders.
We hope that you will plan on coming to the Society to do research in this
next year. It is so much "fun" to meet and be of service to those of you who
are at this point just a name on an email.... It is always great to put a
face to a name.
Hope to see you soon.

The Genealogical Society of the Gallia County Historical & Genealogical
Society will hold it's monthly meeting tomorrow, Jan. 13 at 7pm at the
Historical & Genealogical Society office.
Frank Braxton will have the program on turning old negatives into photos by
using your computer.
We will also be discussing the First Families and Civil War Soldiers Banquet
which will be held at October 8, 2005 at Grace United Methodist Church. If
you need help with this or need an application go to our website and print a
copy. The volunteers are always willing to help anyone wanting to find an
ancestor or solider. ( www.gchags.com )
We will be also assigning new chairmen to all committees and also assigning
people to these committees. If you live in Gallia County and are a member of
the Gallia County Historical & Genealogical Society come a be a part of our
society. If you are not a member come and we will sign you up as a new
members!
We have many new and interesting projects planned for this year so plan to
attend! We welcome everyone interested in preserving family history for
future generations. Even if you don't live in Gallia County but are
interested in preserving Gallia County's genealogy plan to attend if
possible or contact me or Cheryl Enyart, Vice President and maybe we can
find a project you can help or stop in the society office and see Mary Lee
Marchi and she can also help you with finding a project.
