Subject: Civil War Discharge Registration

I have found in Lawrence County that the Civil War soldiers recorded their
discharges after they left the service. I am assuming that this was the
practice/requirement everywhere. If this was so in Gallia County where would I
write/contact to obtain copies of these recorded discharges.

I am particularly interested in Peter L and George W Cornell who served in
Company B, 91st Ohio Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War.. They enlisted in
Aug. 1862. Peter was dicharged with a disability on May 14, 1863 and George with
a disability on Oct 14, 1863.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I do not live in the Gallia
County area so need to obtain via mail (or internet)...
