Hi Betty,

Here's a hand-out I created for the Gallipolis CW Homecoming event last weekend, I sat up Friday night making 50 full page copies in color, and another 50 half page copies in black and white. :-)

The Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System is a great place to start. If you think you know an ancestor from Gallia County and you believe he may have served in the CW, you can go to that link and put his name in the search boxes. While it may have some holes in it, if your ancestor served in the war, Union or Confederate it should pull him up by name, company, regiment and rank. This information can also be found via Ancestry.com (which is available at Bossard Library free of charge) or if you're not from Gallia County, often times county libraries have sources where it is available.

If you can pull up a regiment we can also find him in the Ohio in the Civil War books at Bossard, and I believe the GCHS also has the books. I'm always more than happy to do research on CW soldiers if anyone needs help. The following is the hand-out.
