Subject: State Library of Ohio giving its genealogy collection to Columbus Metro Library main branch
Date: Tue, 8 Aug 2006 06:28:30 -0700 (PDT)

With all the talk last week about donating copies of family histories to libraries, I was told of a situation that might interest a lot of you.
The State Library of Ohio is currently in the process of donating all of its genealogical collection to the Columbus Metropolitan Library main branch.
I think donating copies to as many places as we can is an excellent idea. No matter where you are, do you not always check surnames "just in case"? We did this with The Cherrington Family History and Genealogy, but now after this discussion, I've come up with a few more ideas. Put it where the roots began, where they are now, and in the big libraries such as Ft. Wayne and Salt Lake City. Put it around your state, put it everywhere. By all means do not overlook the Ohio Genealogical Society in Mansfield which seeks not only family histories but any old genealogical publication. They are in the process of getting ready to build one of the premier libraries around. You can check this out at ogs.org.
I don't want to start another round of here, there. Do what you can. I just wrote to make you aware of the situation in Columbus and to remind you of other possibilities.

PS If anyone wants a link to the story in Columbus, just email me privately and I'll send it.
