Thanks Henny,
Don also answered, probably on the Lawrence list, and said that the books at
the library are just the indexes, and that the deeds are at the recorder's
office. I had forgotten that the books were just the indexes. Now to
figure out how to find my George Hixon.
He shows up in the 1880 census in Gallia and in 1885 had a son in Symmes,
Lawrence County. At some point he moved from one to the other, but the
indexes didn't show *any* Hixons (regardless of spelling) through 1893.
Hmm... probably lived with family or something. I'll have to check and see
if they have any plat maps like Gallia does. Those are priceless :-)
I have to stop in at Bossard tomorrow and use Ancestry, and once I look at a
few censuses I'll have a fully footnoted full story of my Hixons, Rices,
Clarksons and Morgans of Gallia and Lawrence County.
Dang I wish my father was still alive to see this all being put together,
and Samuel Campbell being admitted to first families of Gallia County. But
at least future generations will know who's who in our family, and can take
as much pride of the Gallia blood as my father did. He's the one who
inspired me to do this work.
Thanks again,
Linda.
