Hi Rita,
I think you're barking up the right tree. I found Charles H. Campbell b.
abt. 1821 in VA, and he has a daughter Louisa in the 1850 census. It
appears as though his wife's name is Irene or Irena? I can't exactly make
it out. It's interesting because by the 1870 census he's remarried to a
Sarah A. (marriage was Feb. 24, 1867 Charles to Sarah Agnes Taggart. Gallia
Marriages Vol 3 p. 187), p. 71 of Gallia Marriages between 1851-1900.
The 1850 census lists the family as:
Charles H. Campbell age 29 b. VA
Irene Campbell age 27 b. Ohio
Martha 8
George 7
John 5
Charles 4
Louisa 2
The 1860 census lists the children as: 754/736
Charles Campbell 39 b. VA
Irena Campbell 39 b. OH
Martha 19
George 18
John 16
then in the same household it looks like Louisa Owen age 29 gives her a
value of personal estate and then says she was b. in Ohio. While she's on
the next page, the census taker clearly scratched out his error of change of
household and the next line starts the new household.
She disappears after the 1860 census but according to the Gallia Marriage
book, I've been quoting from all night, Louisa married S.D. Hayslip on Sept.
18, 1862 Vol. 3, p. 134.
What strikes me as somewhat sweet and sentimental is that Charles and Sarah
had a daughter about 7 months old at the time of the 1870 census and they
named her after his first wife, Irena.
This is all I can find in the censuses. I just have a free 3 month
subscription to Ancestry through Family Tree Maker. If you think this
direction is worth pursuing I'll keep looking. If this isn't your line,
just let me know.
Linda.
