FYI for all interested in this book.
Art put a lot of work into compiling the information, but you should be aware
that there is no PROOF contained in it. Art sifted through the family files,
three Greene Co. histories, and many other published books or records. From
the many sources he used, he got estimated dates of birth. It is a great book
to use as a starting point to search for more information. I feel that you all
need to know that the dates contained in the book are taken from some souces
that could be in error. Unfortunately, the title leads people to believe the
dates given are from county records. It is after seeing the book, that one
finds the information has come from many sources.
I have no intention of dampening your interest in the book. I have used it
often at the Greene County Room at the library when doing research for others.
But, if you are new to genealogy, you need to be aware that proof is
necessary.
Births were not recorded in Greene County until 1869. Even then, all births
were not recorded. It was not until 1908 than the state required all births be
recorded. Unfortunately, many of us cannot find birth rercords for our
ancestors.
