I have information on a Daniel Washington Smith whose father was Samuel
Smith. Mother unknown. I have no idea if there is a connection between this
Smith and your Samuel Smith. Who is Daniel W. Smith's mother?

D. W. was born in 1840 in Middletown Valley, MD and came to study at
Wittenberg College in Springfield, OH, in 1860 listing his hometown as
Middletown, MD.

After graduation in 1863 he stayed for a another year's course in theology.
He was licensed to preach by the Miami Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran
Church in the U.S. commonly called the" General Synod" in 1864 and was
ordained in 1865.

After this he married Sarah Elizabeth Eby at Springfield, OH, on Aug 24, 1865.

They had children Nettie and Rev. Arthur Harms Smith, born at Wapakoneta, OH
in 1867 on Jan 25, Wittenberg class of 1888, seminary 1891. Were there
others? when was Nettie born?

He lived in Vandalia, Wapakoneta, Mansfield (twice), and Springfield, OH.

Death occured on May 03, 1893 at Mansfield, his last place of residence and
where he lived twice in his career, last as pastor of St. Luke's Lutheran
Church; previously he was pastor at First Lutheran. Burial is in Mansfield.

thanks for any help you can give. Carol in California
