SEMI -WEEKLY TORCHLIGHT
SATURDAY - DECEMBER 12, 1885
XENIA, OHIO
GREENE COUNTY

DEATH OF JOSEPH MORROW

In the death of Joseph MORROW, one more of Greene County's venerable
and most trustworthy citizens, has passed to eternal rest. His death
occured about 1 o'clock yesterday morning at his home on Columbus Pike,
3 miles from the city.
His illness had been comparatively short, although he had been for a
year or two in poor health. He grew rapidly worse from the time he
became confined to his bed, and his death was not a surprise to his
relatives and friends, although it was a heavy blow to them, as to the
entire community in which he lived. Mr. MORROW may be said to have been a
life long resident of Greene County, not withstanding the fact that he
had resided for a brief period in Logansport, Indiana. He soon grew
dissatisfied in Indiana and returned to Greene County where he had always
resided before and has resided since.
He was born on the 25th of April, 1812, and was consequently 73 years
of age last April.
At the time of his death Colonel MORROW resided on the farm adjoining
that on which Mr. MORROW passed his last days. For a short time he was in
the grocery business with Mr. J.B. CARRUTHERS, but the business not being
congenial to him, he returned to his farm. Mr. MORROW was a life long
member of the U.P. Church, and at the time of his death, held his
membership in the 3rd church of this city. He was a devoted Christian and
one of the most earnest advocates of the cause of temperance in this
county. He was widely known over the county and his kindly face was a
familiar one on the streets of this city. Not many weeks ago he called at
the Torchlight office and passed a pleasant half hour, and we little
thought then, that he would so soon be called to rest.
He leaves, besides his widow, 3 brothers and 1 sister. Rev. Samuel
MORROW, of Albany, N.Y., Mr. Robert MORROW, of Cincinnati, Mr. Jas.
MORROW, of this county, ans Mrs. HARPER of near-Jamestown.
The funeral will be held Friday morning, at half past 11, from the 3rd
U.P. Church. Dr. MOREHEAD conducting the ceremony.
