ROLL CALL: My life is in Greene Co., Preble Co. Montgomery Co. and Clark Co.
and they are all intertwined. Moses Badgley came with his wife Ann Simpson
Badgely and older son Benjamin and Ann's family from Passaic Valley in 1814
(Moses in Greene and Benjamin in Warren), but since Ephraim and Hugh were
born before that in Ohio so they must have been in Butler Co. for a spell
(1807 Census has Moses + 1). Ben married Miss Little in 1813 in Butler and
Catherine Michael in Warren in 1814 (Have the certificate with John Michael
swearing to Catherine's age) and settled in Lexington, Preble Co. Ben and
Catherine had a son, Moses who in 1850s lived in Greene Co. > married
Elizabeth Knott and had children one of them Henrietta. She married in 1841
James Downey of Beavercreek Twp. whose family came here in 1803 (Robinson's
History). He died in 1847 leaving two children of this second marriage,
Rebecca and Harvey. There was a will but these two were not mentioned.
Rebecca eventually married Samuel Morgan and (I have traced them up to 1880
if anyone is interested) and Harvey married the above Henrietta Badgley in
1869 in Madison Co (Have Certificate). Moses Badgley sometime moved to Selma
area or his farms county was changed when the counties changed - I haven't
gotten into this yet.
Harvey and Henrietta had children - two of whom married my grandfather Thomas
H. Swaney born in IN. His father was Alexander and mother a Fisk who came
from Ohio. He and his family (remember the wives changed as they died off)
lived in Lawrence Co. MO (first Downey wife Ellie died but three children
born), IN, and at one time in South Charleston which I believe is in Clark Co
OH.
Harvey Downey at some time must have divorced Henrietta and gone on to marry
three more times (I need to search for divorces and or deaths of two middle
wives - Henrietta lived until 1916 and died a widow, and Harvey died in 1917,
married and in the poor house!
Any cousins who want the proof or further documentation - I am proud and
excited to share. Linda Swaney Sabin, Greene Co. OH
