Perhaps like my Pennsylvanians, they followed the Ohio river or the Boone
trail first to Kentucky - and then confusion in land titles or a distaste for
slavery sent them to the free lands across the river. Some who were part of
military expeditions against the Ohio Indians during the Revolution returned
with glowing reports of the good land to be found to the North.
