Subject: Galloway and Junkin -- I hope I'm back!!

I have a new name, address, and my beloved Mac has been replaced by a
computer which is completely foreign to me and has stored my converted
files only Heaven knows where.

I am now - derived from the animal in a Kipling story
whose motto was "run and find out".

I am also still Barbara Rice, and a descendant of George Galloway and
Rebecka Junkin through two of their sons - James Galloway and
(another) Rebecka Junkin (sister of Lancelot and "a distant cousin" of
her mother-in-law.) -- and also Joseph Galloway and Isabel Orr. Their
oldest son "Pennsylvania" George went to Greene County, and married his
cousin Rebecka -( daughter of James, and linked to Tecumseh) - so that
I am several times my own cousin and therefore interested in finding all
the rest of us.

For some time I have been lurking on several Scottish lists in "the
Wigtown/Kirkcudbright area" and have learned nothing except that records
before the mid 1750's (by which time we were presumably in
Pennsylvania) are extremely difficult to find. I would be ecstatic to
find some documentation for the parentage of George, his wife, and
brothers. Of course we do have the death of his mother in the massacre
in PA. I have seen the same undocumented Junkin parents
ascribed to Rebecka wife of George and Rebecka wife of James...

Since they are assumed to have been Covenanters, it is reasonable that
they do not appear in the established church records - perhaps they
were in hiding - perhaps they fled to Ireland. Apparently the maternal
ancestors (Wallace?) of Joseph Junkin's family (presumed brother of
Rebecka Junkin Galloway wo George) were present in Ireland.

So I am looking for any documentation - and for as many Galloway/Junkin
cousins as I can collect. Most of my information began with the
Galloway catalogue, and was supplemented by a trip to Greene county to
research, Ruth DeVerter's book and correspondence with Gayle Junken -
and originally the lady who got me started with a newspaper quiery about
the Lancelot Junkin family some 40 years ago.

I have some information on William Galloway's family - especially the
rather sad memoir of Samuel Junkin Galloway who must have gotten a hard
start in life as a posthumous child. I also have chased the Lancelot
line and those of his siblings - with the aid of Helen Bickett
Fiegel. I also got information from the late Myrtle Bickett Peterson
- a Zenia resident and my Kendall cousin, Another helpful researcher
tried to explain to me that the Cresswells and Crisswells were not just
a case of casual spelling,

So I am hoping to share and that we can fill holes for each other - and
come up with some distinctions between possibilities, probabilities,
and facts. And that someday I may be able to find where in this stupid
machine my various mixed up files have been stored.
