A piece of this Guernsey Co record is missing. Anyone know the story?
I have been looking for information on Benjamin Helm's
estate (d intestate 1837/38 in Guernsey Co). The administrative
docket or minute book mentions an inventory, but ... it doesn't
seem to be in the probate packets or in the courthouse records.
Some of thi probate material has been filmed, so I ordered the
appraiser & inventory book from the LDS archives.
Inventories, bills of sale v A-B 1826-1847 -- film no. 894946
Film of inventories end on or about p 245, in 1834, with William
Neil's estate (or possibly the previous one). Then they resume
in 1842 with John Shoff's estate on p 448, with the ubiquitous
Thomas Peacock signing and witnessing everything.
That's a gap of _200_ pages and _8_ years -- with what what I'm looking
for square in the middle :^)
The filming was done about 1971 I think, and the index filmed in
the back of the book also seems to omit these pages (that is,
it doesn't seem to index anything in the missing pages). I'm not
sure when this index would've been done, but it's probably
contemporary from the look of the writing. I haven't looked thru
this exhaustively tho.
What's the scoop?
