I am a descendant of James and Sarah Gilmer that resided in Guernsey Co., Ohio. They had 13 children included James Gilmer that was born in 1846 according to census records. I have not obtained census records for James (Jr) for 1900 or later. According to the 1880 census for James (Jr) in Guernsey Co., Ohio, his wife's name was Sarah and they did not have any children at that time. I do not have any marriage information for them.

It is not clear to me that your James I Gilmer is my James (Jr) Gilmer, son of James & Sarah (Downerd) Gilmer, and residing in Guernsey Co., Ohio for at least the years 1850 through 1880. He may have resided there longer, but I have not yet documented his residency for longer. (I haven't spent much time looking.)

It would be wonderful if we are looking for the same James Gilmer. Please keep me posted
