John “Jack” M. Vance, 63, died Friday (Jan. 25, 2002) at his home as a result of an accident.
He was born Aug. 18, 1938, in Cambridge, a son of the late Enid Johnson Vance and Ralph C. Vance of Cambridge.
He retired from Champion Spark Plug in Cambridge and attended St. Benedict Catholic Church. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Knights of Columbus, and Eagles Aerie, all of Cambridge.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia.
He leaves his wife, Janet F. Rhode Vance, whom he married July 1, 1961; three daughters, Mrs. Randy (Cindy) Shivers of Cambridge, Mrs. Buddy (Meg) Miller of Cambridge and Cynthia Vance of Columbus; three sons, Kurt (Elizabeth) Vance of Huntersville, N.C., Scott (Lori) Vance of Reynoldsburg and Michael Vance; a sister, Mrs. Forrest (Cathy) Reed of San Francisco, Calif.; three brothers, Bill (Carol) Vance of Denver, Colo., Ralph Dean (Sue) Vance of Hollister, Calif., and Richard Gene (Laura) Vance of Valpraiso, Ind.; a special sister-in-law, Mrs. Jim (Jeanine) McBride; eight grandchildren, Angie Long, Amy Shivers, Amber Shivers, Andrea Shivers, J.T. Shivers, Cory Miller, Anthony Miller and Hannah Miller; a step-grandson, Jimmy Bovuso; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including Fred McBride of The Daily Jeffersonian.
Friends and family may call 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bundy-Law Funeral Home. Elks services will be 7 followed at 7:30 by Knights of Columbus services, and a Christian wake service at 8 p.m.Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Benedict Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Robert Borer officiating.
Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Cambridge.
