Sherry,
Well...........that is interesting. I assumed that Harriet was a Davis due
to the 1870 census. Eliza J. Davis who lives with the Gorleys states that
she helps sister, which would be Harriet.

On the 1850 census Cambridge, M432_684 page 280
Joseph Vincent age 26
Jane age 23
Oliver age 6mo.
Thomas Davis age 36
Elizabeth Davis age 35
Delphia Davis age 4
John Davis age 4mo.
Calle A. Capman or Cafman age 84
James Capman or Cafman age42

Living nearby are:
William Gorley age 67 (1783)
Ellen age 65
William age 24 (1826)
Minerva E. Davis age 7
Eliza J. Davis age 1

I do know that Eliza J.'s father is Thomas Davis from her death record and
from her son's death record. Why Minerva and Eliza live with the Wm. Gorley
family, I do not know. I do not find Harriet Davis on the 1850 census.

On the 1860 census Cambridge M653_969 Page 293
William Gorley age 30 (1830)
Harriet Gorley age 25
Mary E. Gorley age 1 month
Delphia Davis age 14
Thomas Davis age 12 (I think John and Thomas may be the same person)
Eliza Davis age 12

No Thomas and Elizabeth Davis their parents.

On the 1870 census Cambridge M593_1206 Page 410
William Gorley age 42 (1828)
Harriet age 36
Mary E. age 10
Amanda J. age 7
Charles H. age 4
James A. age 2
Thomas Davis age 21
Eliza J. Davis age 21 under occupation she states she "Helps sister"
So I have assumed that Harriet is a Davis and the sibling of the Davis
children.

So..................I guess it is possible that Harriet is not a Davis but
why Eliza states she is helping her sister, well I don't know. The large
age difference between Harriet and the rest of the Davis children, I figured
that there were other children that I could not yet find. Do you know the
other children of Christopher Cornelius? Perhaps Elizabeth Davis maiden
name is Cornelius. Or maybe Elizabeth Davis is the daughter of William and
Ellen Davis and Harriet would be their aunt. If Harriet is indeed a
Cornelius, why did they raise the Davis Children?
What are your thoughts?

On the 1880 census
William age 52 (1828)
Harriet age 44
Mary E. age 20
Mandy J. age 17
charles H. age14
James A. age 11
Annie M. age 8
Celia M. age 6
George W. age 3
Cora A. age 1

The birth year of 1825 is stated on his gravesite.
William Gorley 1825-1900
Harriet Gorley 1835-1915
Anna Gorley 1871-1886
Cora Gorley 1880-1886
both girls died from the measles

Delphia Black Foster 1845-1926

I will send for the death record of Harriet Gorley.

Let me know what you think....................Barb
