If you haven't already, check out Researching a Spanish American War Veteran
at
http://www.spanam.simplenet.com/geneaol.htm
Here you'll also find out how to get the person's pension file, the Rough
Rider's roster, plus many more rosters, pictures, etc. I just discovered this
site, and I wish it had been available 2 years ago when I started my search.

Just a few weeks ago I got a pension file for my ancestor Bernard BORGEMENKE
of Cincinnati, who served in the 6th Missouri Infantry, Company K. He
mustered in at Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis, Missouri in July 1898. The
pension file gave many good clues and insights, such as the fact that he was
living in South St. Louis at the time, which I did not know. Also found out
he moved back to Cincinnati afterward, then moved to the Dayton Soldier's
Home in 1910. Great stuff!

Good Luck,
Bryan Kercher
P.S. I think someone already mentioned the Index to Pension Files, this is
also a good place to start.
